Medical Ethics and Nutrition Decisions at the End of Life:
Maureen McCarthy, MPH, RD, CSR, LD; Transplant Dietitian, Assistant Professor– OHSU:
Participants will be able to: Examine landmark cases related to end-of-life decisions which included nutrition issues .(Quinlan, Cruzan, Schaivo). Describe and apply the Jonsen model ("four box model"), which organizes case details to assist in end-of-life decision-making identify potential benefits and hazards of artificial nutrition and hydration (ANH) at the end-of-life.

Food addiction, is it the root of our obesity crisis? ; Bev White, PhD, RD, LD; The concept of food addiction is very controversial. One of the problems of course, is that everyone eats. So how can a label of “addictive” be applied to that which supports life itself. This topic will delve into the many facets of food addiction and how it can be prevented and treated.
